The sensational mob lynching of Abhijit Nath and Niputpal Das at Dokmoka in Assam’s Karbi Anglong has completed two years on Monday.
The incident had invited global attention then.
However, justice still awaits the two promising youth of the State.
Now, the desolate parents of these two youth have found support in times of distress from human rights activist Dr Dibyajyoti Saikia.
Saikia has come forward to lead the legal battle for justice of these two youth.
Speaking to Northeast Now, Saikia said, “I will carry forward the case in my capacity as far as I can.”
Saikia also asserted that the mob lynching of Abhi-Nil is blatant violation of human rights.
He also said that the government and the administration have failed to safeguard the lives and property of common people.
Saikia said, “How can some witnesses give fabricated statements in the court. The government and the police have moral responsibility to deal the the mob lynching case firmly.”
Saikia also said if the government does not take a firm step, it will be difficult to put an end to such incidents.
He also advocated for a new act denouncing mob lynching.
He said, “The Supreme Court has said about such an act way back in 2018. It is the responsibility of the Centre and also the State Government to bring in such a law to curb these types of violence.”
He also alleged that the way such issues should have been discussed in the Parliament or the Assembly, but the same has not been done.
